Caribbean Stud

A guide to Caribbean Stud.

caribbean stud pokerCaribbean Stud Poker is one of the many poker games you will find at online casinos.

When you step up to the virtual table, you place your box in the Ante box. This is when the $1 progressive bet can be placed in the designated space. If you are dealt a full house, flush, straight flush, four of a kind, or royal flush and that $1 progressive is on the table, you win more money.

The game is against the dealer and not other players at the table, so you don’t have to worry about wondering what everyone else is holding. The odds of being dealt the three highest-paying hands are very slim, but you can decide whether a bet is worth the risk.

The Rules of Caribbean Stud Poker

caribbean stud poker rules

Once you have placed your bets, the dealer and all players will be dealt a hand of five cards each.

The dealer shows one of his or her cards while the player cards are facedown. Players can then look at their cards and the single dealer card that is face-up. You only have that one card to determine if your hand could be the winning hand. If you don’t have anything, it is best to fold. However, you will lose your Ante. If you placed a progressive bet, you will lose it, as well.

If the hand is playable, you will make an additional bet in the Bet box, but you have to wager twice the amount of the Ante. Once all players have made their decisions, the dealer reveals his or her hand. The dealer must have a minimum poker hand ranking a King and Ace. If the dealer doesn’t have this hand, he or she must fold.

If the dealer has the Ace and King, each remaining player must play their hands against the dealer and use traditional poker hand ranking. If a player’s hand beats the dealer, the money in the Ante bet is won. The odds for the secondary bet are:

  • 1:1 for a pair
  • 2:1 for two pair
  • 3:1 for three of a kind
  • 4:1 for a straight
  • 5:1 for a flush
  • 7:1 for a full house
  • 20:1 for four of a kind
